Why Your Support Matters

"Freeing yourself was one thing. Claiming ownership of that freed self was another."

TONI MORRISON

The women of PIVOT are dynamic and courageous. But no one should have to make the journey of reentry alone.

FEED

As a society, we often take food for granted. While it’s at the center of our survival, we often overlook its importance. For a woman recently released from prison — often with little money and no place to go — having a warm, homemade meal can mean the world.

MENTOR

Strong women build strong women. Whether you’re an experienced leader or have been waiting for the opportunity to take a more active role in guiding others, PIVOT is always seeking passionate mentors.

TEACH

Our workshops are the cornerstone of PIVOT’s mission to help women reclaim their lives after incarceration. If you’re comfortable at the front of a classroom, we’re searching for PIVOT workshop instructors. You have much to teach the world. Start right here in Baltimore.

Partner.

PIVOT works alongside more than 40 partner organizations including nonprofits, city and state agencies, training programs and community organizations to connect women with the resources and support they need to reestablish their lives in the community after exiting incarceration.

We are always looking for new partners to support our mission to help women reclaim their lives, rejoin their families, and reinvigorate their communities

The personal impact is real.

A recent PIVOT participant was released from prison during the COVID-19 pandemic after serving 18 years. She returned to a world completely different than anything she had previously experienced.

After assisting with meeting her basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter, PIVOT was able to support her in gaining a comfort level with today's technology, including participating in workshops and preparing for virtual job interviews via Zoom.

Today she has a job in healthcare, her own apartment, her driver's license, and a car. While incarcerated, she held a leadership role in the institution's kitchen, and other inmates would hire her to prepare meals for special events such as birthdays.

When she's not working in her healthcare job, she hosts pop-up catering events to cook and sell meals within her community. Her long-term goal is to open her own catering business. PIVOT has been honored to support her on her journey and is so grateful for the ways various people and organizations have come together to help her create a new life for herself.
